The Holiday Hunger Appeal is the Food Bank’s largest and most public fundraising event. This appeal runs from mid-November to Christmas Eve. A Holiday Hunger Appeal display is set up at Crossgates Mall where volunteers ask shoppers to make a donation to the Food Bank and hang ornaments on the holiday tree.
Many businesses and organizations serve as Matching Day Sponsors, matching collections in the mall on designated days and providing all or some of the day’s volunteers. Other groups take up collections or participate in special activities (such as the Ornament Pin-Up Program) to raise funds and donate the proceeds to the Appeal. A special Holiday Hunger Appeal mailing also produces contributions.
