Horizon Milling Makes Donation For Emergency Hunger Relief to Regional Food Bank of NENY

July 24, 2009

ALBANY, NY — Cargill announced today it is making a $14,000 donation to fight hunger in Albany.  Horizon Milling, a Cargill joint venture, contributed to the donation.

The funds will support the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York and be used to provide emergency food assistance to local families in need.  “We recognize our continued success depends on the growth and health of our communities and partners,” said Alois Hollenstein, facility manager of Horizon Milling’s Albany plant. “In light of Cargill’s purpose to be the global leader in nourishing people, we are making this donation to help address immediate shortfalls of food for families in need.”  “We are very grateful to Cargill and Horizon Millings for this generous gift,” said Mark Quandt, Executive Director of the Regional Food Bank.  “Cargill has done so much to support food banks and fight hunger throughout the country over the years, and Horizon Millings has been a great supporter of the Regional Food Bank locally.  This donation is especially appreciated right now because the need is so great”.

The Albany effort is an outgrowth of a $5 million donation Cargill announced in December 2008.  Hunger relief agencies are facing a growing demand for their services at a time when donations are shrinking.  As a result, Cargill committed funds at global, national and local levels to provide immediate hunger relief to area nonprofits.

In 2008, Cargill supported community efforts in more than 50 countries with a record $44 million in contributions.  Those efforts focus on long-term solutions to health and nutrition, education and environmental issues.  For more on Cargill’s global citizenship work see Cargill’s Corporate Citizenship Review at http://www.cargill.com/about/citizenship/citizenship.htm.
